правительство - a government (16th May 2012)

правительство  [pra-VI-tel'-stva] (neuter noun) - a government

После выборов было сформировано новое правительство. = A new government was formed after the election.

"Правительство" comes from the verb "править" = to rule, to govern.

Adjective: правительственный.

беспокоиться - to worry (11th April 2012)

беспокоиться  [bes-pa-KO-it'-sya] (imperfective verb) – to worry

Не беспокойся, я приеду вовремя. = Don't worry, I'll arrive on time.

Мама всегда беспокоится обо мне, если она не знает, где я. = Mom always worries about me if she doesn't know where I am.

 

The verb comes from two words - "без" = without and "покой" = calm, peace.

духи - perfume (28th march 2012)

духи  [du-HI] (plural noun) – a perfume

Меня раздражает запах её духов. = Her perfume smell irritates me.

Наташа спрыснула шею и запястья духами. = Natasha sprayed her neck and her wrists with perfume.

 

"Духи" is a plural noun, for example, "цветочные духи" = flower perfume.

багажник - trunk (19th March 2012)

багажник  [ba-GAZH-nik] (masculine noun) –a trunk, a boot (in a car)

Положи чемодан в багажник. = Put the suitcase in the trunk.

В багажнике больше нет места. = There's no room left in the trunk.

 

The word comes from "багаж" = luggage, baggage.
